Brooke Smith

Deputy Director, Government Innovation, Bloomberg Philanthropies

Brooke Smith is Deputy Director of the Government Innovation program at Bloomberg Philanthropies, where she helps city leaders worldwide bring bold ideas to life and harness data-driven solutions to improve public services. In this role, she works to strengthen local governments’ ability to innovate, equipping mayors and municipal teams with the tools, expertise, and support they need to solve society’s most pressing challenges.

Before joining Bloomberg in 2023, Brooke was a Partner at Bennett Midland, a consulting firm that collaborates with mission-driven organizations and governments to drive impact. Previously, she spent nearly a decade in public service in New Orleans, serving as Chief of Staff to Mayor Mitch Landrieu and, earlier, as Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Partnerships. In these roles, she guided citywide initiatives on hurricane recovery, public safety, and partnerships while managing complex intergovernmental and community relationships.

Her career began internationally, with leadership roles at the World Health Organization and the International Union Against Cancer in Geneva, as well as early experience in finance and communications in Switzerland.

With more than two decades of global and local leadership, Brooke is dedicated to empowering governments to innovate with creativity, flexibility, and data—building stronger, more resilient cities for generations to come.
