From Hype to How-To: Generative AI’s Evolving Role in Procurement
New technology can feel daunting, especially when there are major unknowns about how emerging technology might change procurement jobs, processes, and policies. While some procurement teams are already experimenting with generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) tools, others are still in wait-and-see mode when it comes to integrating AI into procurement tasks or operations.
The Procurement Excellence Network presented a 60-minute session on the intersection of generative AI and procurement operations: the opportunities, the limitations, and how jurisdictions can leverage emerging technology strategically and safely. The presentation highlighted early use cases related to market research, solicitation drafting, and contract management. Our team also shared frameworks for piloting gen AI in procurement operations that minimize risk, while considering how to assess the value of emerging technologies to make procurement tasks easier and quicker. We closed with a brief breakout activity to help participants brainstorm action steps.
Post-Event Session: Attendees were invited to participate in an optional 30-minute discussion following the event for open dialogue with peer governments and PPG staff on experiences, best practices, and strategies for incorporating AI tools into your procurement practice.
