Procurement Thresholds Reimagined: Implementing the Ideal Approach for Your Government

  • Do you feel your government’s current procurement thresholds are outdated?
  • Has your procurement department discussed adjusting thresholds  but doesn’t know how to make a compelling case to key stakeholders?

Purchasing thresholds serve as guardrails intended to standardize the procurement process. However, what should provide clarity and structure often slows governments down— lengthy cycle delays, overwhelmed procurement staff, frustrated user departments, increased usage of administrative workarounds, and a lack of vendor competition are often symptoms of outdated purchase limits. Purchasing thresholds shouldn’t stay static, but instead be regularly re-evaluated to make sure they’re best serving the government’s needs and responsive to market conditions.

The Procurement Excellence Network hosted a peer roundtable and discussed operational challenges that served as a signal that a jurisdiction’s procurement thresholds needed a reset. In this session, we shared strategies to help evaluate current purchasing thresholds and featured stories and lessons learned by peer governments that successfully modernized thresholds.

Post-Event Session: Participants also joined us for an optional post-event discussion immediately following the session to continue the conversation with peer governments!
